27 Video Marketing Ideas for School Marketers
Running low on ideas for your school's video marketing plan? Start elevating your social media strategy with these video ideas.
Suddenly, video marketing is at the forefront of everyone’s minds. This year, all of the leading social media platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, are heavily focused on a video-first strategy, and this won’t be slowing down anytime soon. But if coming up with creative, share-worthy video content has you at a loss for ideas, here are some video marketing ideas to propel your school forward, letting you ramp up your video marketing strategy without racking your brain for new ideas.
  1. Share an overview of your school

A video overview gives your audience an understanding of what makes your school unique. Video is one of the best ways to tell your school’s story. Even though the goal of the video is marketing, use both professional and in-house video vignettes to help your video feel genuine.
  1. Introduce faculty, staff, and administrators

Record a short introduction of each staff member, telling the audience their job and their background. Include something personal such as something they love doing, their pet or something about their family.
  1. Classroom updates

Every week spend time with different classrooms in your school. Record short interviews with students and a fun update on what the class is currently working on. Students will love seeing themselves online and parents will appreciate the glimpse into their child’s day.
  1. Field trips

There are few things more fun than a class field trip. Ask your teachers, chaperones and even students (if they’re old enough to have phones) to video highlights while on the trip. Then use a video editor to piece the clips together, creating a montage of the field trip.
  1. Extracurricular events

Highlights from school sporting events, school plays, talent shows, and other extracurricular activities go a long way toward encouraging more attendance at your school events. Make some highlight videos to show your school’s community what they’re missing.
  1. Record teachers sharing why they love their job

Teachers love to talk about their job; parents and students love hearing why teachers do what they do. It’s a win-win-win for everyone!
  1. Record your principal giving a weekly recognition shout-out to an outstanding student

When students know their achievement is valued, it motivates them to continue to excel and motivates other students to improve.
  1. Videotape students showing and explaining their artwork

Today’s art students are the next generation of artists, curators, and collectors. We have a responsibility to open the door to art and allow kids to express themselves through exploration and creativity.
  1. Tape parents expressing what they love most about the school

Don’t underestimate the power of your current and former families to assist your marketing efforts. Testimonials are a respected and valuable resource and far more influential than any other form of marketing.
  1. Record students telling a joke

Who doesn’t love watching kids telling jokes? Infuse humor into your marketing and you’ll have tons of exposure for your school.
  1. Behind the scenes

Parents love behind the scenes videos. Does your band want to recruit more members? Maybe the drama club could use a few more actors? Record a “behind the scenes” video showing what the group is all about and then share that video on your social media channels.
  1. School news updates

Your social media channels are the perfect place to distribute school news updates. To make the update more fun, recruit students to act as news anchors on the video.
  1. Messages from teachers and administrators

Teachers or administrators may have their own class or group-specific message they would like to get out quickly. Ask them to record a video on their phone and then send their ideas to you to post on your social media channels.
  1. Teacher and staff highlights

Why not showcase your faculty and staff hard work and achievements? Every week or month focus on a different teacher. Record them in action and then get interviews from colleagues and students about what makes them great.
  1. Lesson reviews

Your teachers may want to offer their students a quick lesson review to help them get through assignments and projects at home. Have the teacher make a quick video in front of a whiteboard going through the lesson. Then post to social media channels so students can access the video from anywhere.
  1. Green initiatives

Does your school have a green initiative? Green school initiatives include good indoor air quality, use natural light, save energy, serve healthy food, create green schoolyards and teach stewardship. Highlight ways your school is “going green”.
  1. Community garden

Does your school have a community garden? Community gardens enrich academic learning, nurture relationships and create a positive neighborhood environment than enhances students’ lives. This is a great idea to share in school videos.
  1. Local school bond levy information

Parents are interested in knowing about local school bond levy information. Some ideas include:
  • Date of the election
  • How the bond funds will be used
  • Official election results
  • How the measure or bond levy came to be on the ballot
  1. Live stream graduation ceremonies

Graduation is a special time for graduates, their families and everyone that helped the student achieve their goal. Graduation marks the end of a long journey, an incredible effort, and a turning point in life. Often, not everyone who would like to attend the graduation ceremony is able. That’s why knowing how to stream graduation ceremonies live is a game changer! Live streaming can ensure no one misses out on the big day.
  1. Foundation or development promotion

Storytelling is the force behind successful fundraising; videos allow you to combine your dynamic story with emotion to create a connection with your audience that words and photos can’t build.
  1. New headmaster feature

Everyone wants to meet and get to know a new headmaster, and the new headmaster will be eager to help people feel connected to them. Building relationships with parents is crucial. Featuring the new headmaster in a video can help to build positive and collaborative relationships that are important to the success of the school in the future.
  1. Headmaster’s holiday greeting

Parents are often skeptical of the headmaster, especially if they don’t know him or her. Recording your headmaster giving a holiday greeting can help to foster trust and realize he or she has the best interests of their children at heart.
  1. Common Core Standards

Parents are interested in Common Core Standards and how they will impact their child. They will want to know what your school is doing to implement the standards and support teachers. They will want to learn how the Common Core was developed, what’s different about them from previous standards, understand the facts about Common Core and understand why they are important.
  1. New or updated website

Launching a new or updated website? This is a good opportunity to show parents what’s new and how they can access information on your site.
  1. Food and nutrition in the school

Kids learn better eating habits when schools provide healthy meals. Engaged parents help guide their children and can help support healthy school nutrition.
  1. Fundraisers

In this digital age sending home, a flyer to advertise a school fundraiser may not get anyone’s attention. Instead, try creating a fundraising video to reach your school community. Here are some ideas to include in your fundraiser video:
  • Event details
  • Fundraiser goals
  • How donors can donate
  • Include visuals
  • Tell a story about how the fundraiser came to be, how much fun the fundraising event will be or how the money raised will be used for your school
  1. Mobile learning

Technology is changing the way kids learn in school. There are many video ideas that show how teachers are using mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, to access digital content in a personalized manner. Use video to show how your school is using connected mobile devices to improve the outcomes of student learning in a dramatic way.
